Optomistic

COMPLETE PLAYER – OPTOMISTIC

This week’s character quality we are going to discuss is Optimistic.  Last week I explained that the first step in being successful is Commitment.  The next step is being optimistic.

Optimistic is being positive.  When you face adversity do you maintain a positive attitude?  Are you hopeful and excited that good things are going to happen?  When you go out to the field or court there are a lot of things going on out there, things may not go right, you may experience ups, downs, bad calls, penalties and turnovers.  There are a lot of things that can go wrong, can you face those situations and persevere with a positive attitude.  If you are optimistic you will also be a huge part of your team by elevating their play as well as your own.   Optimism is contagious if you can be the spark plug you can affect a whole game starting with your team spilling over to the coaching staff and even the fans at the game.    We’ve all seen sidelines deflate before the game is over because they lost hope and gave up.  When you’re optimistic you can remain positive, this keeps you positive and it helps you continue to finish the task at hand at a high level.

Are you optimistic?  “You are Positive.”

“Adversity and failure are times that really reveal if we are optimistic or not”

Positive                      Opposite

Hopeful                      Disheartened
Confident                   Unsure
Risk Taking                Doubtful

Get an Edge

The Edge Sports Performance Academy is a performance enhancement institution for student athletes, ages 8 and older. Our mission is to give our athletes the same quality strength & conditioning that collegiate and professional athletes receive as a means of helping them experience greater athletic success. We understand that the landscape of sports is ever evolving and becoming increasingly competitive. If athletes are going to continue to excel and enjoy athletics, we know they need more than just sport specific skill work year round. We know it is imperative that the athlete’s “raw material”, their physical genetic potential, is tapped into and developed in the way only performance training can.

Our programming is extensive and detailed to address every facet of athletic development . The Junior Edge program is for young athletes aged 8-11. The primary focus for this age group is exploratory motor development in both a safe and fun environment. We put these athletes in a variety of situations that allow them to successfully learn correct movement patterns that will become the basis for more specific sport-skills as they age. A good percentage of the learning comes in the form of competition or game based activities.
For our athletes 12 years and older, we have multiple programming options. Most are tailored for the individual athlete and the demands of their sport(s), though there are a few specific supplemental ones, such as our ACL Prevention and Bridge programs.

Through our options we’re able to:
·         INCREASE SPEED, STRENGTH, & POWER/EXPLOSIVENESS
·         IMPROVE AGILITY/LATERAL MOVEMENT/CHANGE OF DIRECTION
·         DECREASE REACTION TIME
·         ENHANCE FOOT SPEED & MOBILITY
·         IMPROVE BODY COMPOSITION, ENDURANCE & RESISTANCE TO INJURY

We also offer 1-on-1, 2-on-1, small group and team training. With these options, we’re able to offer our athletes even more specific training. For details and pricing don’t hesitate to contact Head Strength & Conditioning/Performance Coach Brian White at 330-414-5449.

Commitment

Pinnacle is determined with its mission and vision to develop athletes for life.  With that being said I want to start a weekly discussion amongst the Pinnacle family (Coaches, employees, families members, customers) what it means to be a “COMPLETE PLAYER”, in life and sports.  We will use Complete Player as an acronym and each week I will write on a Character Quality (CQ).

Our first word is “Commitment”.  This foundational CQ needs to be recognized early because you cannot start anything and do it to the best of our ability if you don’t commit!  Commitment is not an easy thing especially in the world we live in today.  You have multiple siblings pulling parents each way, you have kids starting things and it is just too much for them to juggle or maybe they don’t like it after they start.

Most of the time when you make a commitment it is not only to yourself, but also to others, if that’s a coach, teammate etc.  As parents it is important to hold your children accountable.  They should understand that when you commit to something you have to do everything in your power to see it through.

Commitment is the devotion or dedication to a cause or person.  “Dedicated vs. Uncommitted”, quitting is the path of least resistance.

How have you came across Commitment and dealt with it either in your own path or your children’s?

Welcome!

Welcome and thank you for reading the NEW Pinnacle Sports blog site! This is exiting for us as we hope to provide thoughts, information, questions, ideas, suggestions and tips from some of the best coaches and youth development persons in the area.

The primary reason for Pinnacle Sports – our mission and passion – is to develop young people to become well-rounded, well-versed and well-mannered adults using youth sports as a vehicle. Our hope is that our youth become better adults because of their involvement in youth sports and in particular, Pinnacle Sports. We teach your son and daughter not only to become better hitters or shoot better free throws or have better ball control with their feet but we also teach the importance of physical training and nutrition; the importance of character in all that they do; the importance of teamwork and being a member of a team.

Our coaches are role models – people who not only know sports and athletes but also know young people and youth development. The genuinely care for each person that we see in all of our programs.

Know that we firmly believe that Pinnacle Sports truly is Developing Athletes for Life.
